Karl graduated from the Camborne School of Mines in 1996 and worked mostly since in the Latin American exploration industry, focused in the realm of epithermal gold-silver exploration in Honduras, Mexico, Peru and Chile, notably in the exploration and development of the Fruta del Norte gold deposit in Ecuador between 2006-2010 with Aurelian Resources and subsequently with Kinross Gold Corp. He also worked in Mongolia between 2002-2005 with Ivanhoe Mines on the immense Oyu Tolgoi porphyry-epithermal deposit, as well as coal exploration in the Gobi Desert. Since leaving Kinross from the Tasiast gold mine in Mauritania in 2011 Karl has worked as a consultant geochemist, mostly in Brazil and Mexico with two consulting experiences for Dalradian Resources on the Curraghinalt deposit.
